2 Timothy 1:7- “For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline”

Anxiety, Depression and ED make us timid in some way. At the very least, they make us timid of the emotion of fear. God did  not create anyone on this earth to feel fear in the way that most humans do today. Fear is a human emotion that keeps us away from real dangers that are actually going to kill us. The devil plays on that completely natural emotion and has made fear pop up in a lot of places that it shouldn’t.

The Eating Disorder Mind- Thinking Bubble- Spirit of Fear

Fear of judgement, fear of weight, fear of the future, fear of what happens when we get sad, fear of foods, fear of mirrors, and fear of being alone are all fears from the enemy. (P.S- there are SO many more!!)

God does not want us to live our lives in this constant state of fear and anxiety that most of us are in. God wants us to have strength, power, love and self-discipline. Anxiety, depression and Eating disorders take away all of those things and create that spirit of fear.

Spirit of Fear- Eating Disorder Devotional

Without the constant spirit of fear, we would have the strength to do what God told us to do without fearing the judgement of others. We would have the capacity to think about and love others without hating ourselves. We would have self-discipline to know what the right decision was and then follow through with it, even if the wrong decision is flashing in our faces.

The spirit of fear makes you do a lot of things out of self-preservation. Think now about what this spirit has made you do. Would God want you to live your life like this? As a shell of who you were made to be?

The next time that you feel fear, anxiety or distress, ask yourself the serious question- How would God want me to feel about this? You can choose what thoughts and emotions you give power to in your mind. You have so much more power than you think you do. The enemy wants you to think that you are weak, that you are timid, that you are small.

Friend, you are NONE of those things. You are mighty because you serve a mighty God. You are strong because your God is stronger than any enemy you face. You have the power to love everyone, even yourself, because of how much God loves you. You have permission to care about yourself because God loves you more than you could ever imagine.
