Exodus 14:13-14- “Moses answered the people, ‘Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today. The Egyptians you see today you will never see again. The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still”

In the chaos of fear, I am the first one to start panicking. My husband? He is cool as a cucumber, waiting to make a move until his thoughts are together and he has an action plan.

So many times I wish that I could be like that. In a place where I didn’t panic when I felt fear. Where I could feel fear and go ‘this is normal, I am okay!’

Being afraid is okay- it is an emotion that God gave us for a purpose! Fear is so important! It helps us run from things that are going to actually harm us. Fear protects us!

But when fear is misplaced, things get BAD real fast. For instance, being afraid of food, of leaving safe spaces, or of driving are not things that we should be afraid of.

When fear starts creeping into these places in our lives, we have to stand firm. We have to start believing that our bodies can handle the challenges that are thrown at it. We have to start trusting GOD over our thoughts of fear! The more we fight by standing firm and start doing the things that scares us anyway, the less hold fear will have in our thoughts.

Standing firm means eating that meal when your mind is screaming food rules at you.

Standing firm is leaving home when you have plans with friends even though your anxiety is telling you to stay home.

It’s eating the fear foods. It’s doing that THING that scares you. It’s LIVING LIFE without fear holding you back from the things that YOU want to do.

The more you stand firm in these principles of life over fear, the more freedom you will feel!

This is such a powerful verse from Exodus. The Israelites were running from Egypt and Moses had to continually encourage them to keep going.

There is such a beauty in this verse that resonates with so many things that I personally struggle with while battling my Eating Disorder and anxiety.

Fear used to rule my life. Now, by standing firm against food rules and fear based thinking, I’m able to LIVE my life instead of just survive.

The more I stand firm, the further away food rules get from me and the quieter they have become. The less I paid attention to them and the more I fought them when they did come up, the better I felt in the long run. It was worth it fighting through those tough meals and hard emotions to get to this place of freedom in my life now.

The Lord does fight for me DAILY! Instead of running around in fear, I have to be still with HIM. I have to come to Him daily and wait out my storms of fear and food rules with Him. Instead of running from emotions, I’m still with God. He gets me through all of that.
