Spiritual Warfare.

That’s what a lot of us experience daily and we don’t even know it. The constant anxiety, depression, eating disorder thoughts, addictions, fears, and bad behaviors: all of this is spiritual warfare.

Anxiety has become so common in our vernacular that it is just accepted that everyone has an anxiety problem. Anxiety and Depression medications are some of the most prescribed in the USA. And, it makes sense. The enemy is constantly attacking us with thoughts about how we aren’t enough, and those thoughts give us SO much anxiety, fear and sadness. We turn to behaviors to try and make the thoughts quieter for a moment. But the next thing we know? The thoughts are back again, and louder than ever.

I was in a Bible Study this past month when my leader said something I had never heard. She said that when the enemy is making a direct attack on you, your thoughts start with “I”

“I can’t handle this.”

“I’m not _______ enough.”

“I have to ________ to make this stop.”

Because deep down, you don’t actually want to be thinking these things. You don’t want to engage in the addictive, ED, bad for you behaviors. You probably just don’t see another way out.

A huge turning point for me in my Eating Disorder Recovery was when a therapist looked at me and told me that I didn’t have to listen to all of the thoughts in my head. I didn’t have to do what they told me to do. I found SUCH freedom in that statement. I thought that my thoughts were keeping me safe, when in fact my thoughts were literally killing me.

To fight spiritual warfare, we have to have our armor; and it’s much different armor than any other battle you will fight in your life. It’s protection in your mind. Building roadblocks against the enemy’s attacks are crucial to fighting.

In this devotional, we will look at verses and tactics to fight your own thoughts when they are getting attacked.

I do want to warn you: Dying Things SCREAM. When you start fighting these spiritual battles, it will not be easy. It will be hard. But we can all do hard things! Your thoughts will get louder the more you resist them. But trust me, you have to continue to resist them and fight by doing what God would want you to do in that situation. The enemy is going to get loud when he realizes that you are fighting his stronghold in your life.

We have to start thinking of these thoughts as spiritual warfare instead of just the emotion or thought. We have to understand that because we are precious to God, the enemy is attacking us, constantly prowling to see where he can gain a foothold.

You have choices to make for the next 31 days- constant choices about what you are willing to do to put an end to this battles. But I know you can. I know you can because you have GOD fighting with you. Go to Him in prayer and ask for Him to fight for you.

At the end of this, I hope that you come out a warrior. But warriors fight. So fight, beautiful girl. Fight.
