Want to start on Day 1 of my Eating Disorder Recovery Devotional? Start here.
2 Thessalonians 3:3- “But the Lord is faithful, and he will strengthen you and protect you from the evil one.”
Strengthening any muscle in your body is not an easy process. But strengthening your mind might be the hardest thing you will ever attempt to do. Once the devil has knocked your down with ED thoughts, once your mind is weak, it is going to take a lot of hard work to strengthen it back up.
Trying to strengthen your mind up alone is not what the Father wants. He doesn’t want you to come to Him “fixed and perfect”, God wants you to come to him at all times- hurting or not, stressed or not, sad or not.
Choosing to come to God instead of choosing to rely solely on yourself will make your journey productive and help you to gain that freedom that you so desperately crave. Choosing to believe that the Lord cares about you and that He is with you is so hard to do. Racing thoughts of all the reasons God doesn’t care about you might attack you. But He does! Those other thoughts are not from God, they are from the enemy. He cares about you so much that He sent His perfect Son to die on the cross for you. He loves you!
This trial, this Eating Disorder, this anxiety, this depression, it is all trying to pull you away from God. But through it, God is going to protect you. You have to choose to go to God when you are struggling.
It’s hard now to see how this time in your life will strengthen you when all you might feel is failure. He is creating resilience in you. Resilience, in my opinion, is the most important kind of strength. So what seems like a set back or a bad day, is making you stronger the harder you fight.
Keep relying on the Lord. Because He doesn’t leave you. He is faithful. And He is always protecting you, whether you can see it or not. Faith means trust; trusting the plan when it doesn’t make sense to you at all. God’s plans for you are big. He is using this to strengthen you if you will let him. Let Him in. Start running towards Him instead of behaviors and thought patterns that keep you in your prison.
