*Disclosure: I am not a registered dietitian, therapist or counselor. These are my devotions, my thoughts, which all helped me with my recovery.

Psalm 10:7-11: “His mouth is full of lies and threats; trouble and evil are under his tongue. He lies in wait near the villages; from ambush he murders the innocent. His eyes watch in secret for his victims; like a lion in cover he lies in wait. He lies in wait to catch the helpless; he catches the helpless and drags them off in his net. His victims are crushed, they collapse; they fall under his strength. He says to himself “God will never notice; he covers his face and never sees.”

Eating Disorder Recovery Devotional Verse day 5 quote

It’s a really hard thing to believe or accept that your own brain, your own thoughts, are lying to you. But, unless you are aware of the devil’s foothold in your brain, you think that these actually ARE your own thoughts.

When I was in treatment, one of the first great revelations that I had was that I didn’t HAVE to listen to what my thoughts were telling me to do. I thought I did. I had NO clue that I had a choice. I mean, my thoughts made logical sense to me. I understood and completely supported my behaviors because I was in survival mode.

Eating Disorder Recovery Devotional Quotes day 5

Understanding whose lens we are seeing the world though is vital to not only understanding your eating disorder, but understanding yourself. I’ve been wearing the devil’s glasses for too long. Giving me all of these shameful rules to live by, all of the deep ingrained thoughts about how much of a failure I was, how I couldn’t handle the emotions, the pain, anything in my life.

Eating Disorder Recovery Devotional Quotes Verses Perspective

Your perception of your eating disorder is a LIE of the devil’s! I want my God colored glasses. I want to see the lies the devil has been feeding me exposed. I want to see me how GOD sees me. God’s lenses are the most important ones you can ever put on. Every decision and every thought should be filtered through those lenses.

Eating Disorder Recovery Devotional Perspective Day 5 Transformation Fighting and Strength

Binging and Purging? Restricting? Is that how God wants you to deal with this emotional situation? Are the self-hatred thoughts what God would want you to think about yourself? What He thinks of you?

Eating Disorder Recovery Devotional Perspective Strength Lenses Shift Day 5

Once you can start looking at your brain differently, and realizing what lens you are looking through then you can start to fight. I’m not saying that fighting will be easy. To be honest, it’ll be one of the hardest things you ever do in your life. But once you know who you are fighting with and you understand what God believes about you verses what the enemy wants you to believe about yourself, you can start to gain the right perspective. And a perspective shift is exactly what you need to beat anything that is holding you down.
