Mark 5:33-34 – “Then the woman, knowing what had happened to her, came and fell at his feet, and trembling with fear, told him the whole truth. He said to her, “Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace and be freed from your suffering.””

Have you read this entire story before? A woman is following Jesus through a crowd and wants to be healed from her bleeding. She thinks that if she touches his cloak, she will be. When she does, Jesus feels the power leave him and asks the crowd who had touched his cloak. This is where the verses pick up.

Eating Disorder Devotional- Expectations- Quotes

While this woman’s name is not given, she was a woman who came to Jesus, suffering, and expected to be healed. She believed in the power of Jesus so much, that it might even radiate off of Him, that she took a leap of faith and touched His cloak. She got close to Him. She believed.

A leap of faith is when you do something that, by rational thought, shouldn’t work or has a very slim chance of happening. But you do it anyway because you believe that God is powerful enough to make it happen. This woman does two very important things that we, as women need to make sure that we are doing.

Eating Disorder Devotional- Expectations- Quotes
  1. She got close to Jesus.

Are you close to Jesus? Or are you standing back, waiting to see what will happen. Are you watching others get close, but are too scared to get close yourself? Getting close to your Father is paramount to getting your heart and your mind in the right place. Get as close to the Father as you can! Pray, write, and read daily. With your heart and mind open to God, you will be able to hear Him more clearly. You will be able to make decisions with a clearer head because you will begin to trust God. But you have to start by getting close to Him. Sitting on the sidelines won’t get you the miracle that you crave.

  1. She believed that he would heal her.

Do you truly believe that God is powerful? Are you coming to God everyday expecting that God loves you enough to heal you? A lot of us come to God and we don’t really expect Him to do anything. We come to Him because we feel like we have to. We do it to check it off the list, or to make us feel better about ourselves. Our God is SO much more than that. Our God is a healer, a miracle worker. Most importantly, God loves you. God loves you so much. And God can heal you, you just have to open your heart to really receive it and believe it.

Eating Disorder Devotional- Expectations- Quote

What is a step of faith that you can take today that will get you closer to Jesus. Is there something that He has asked you to do? How can you make your study deeper today, so that you feel the connection immensely? I pray that you start on your journey to believing that God can heal anything- even depression, anxiety and eating disorders. He can do anything. It is beyond our human understanding, and we have to accept that. I pray that you start to today.
