Want to start at Day 1? Start here.
2 Corinthians 4: 16-18- “Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.”
It’s hard for us to think of our ED thoughts as ‘momentary troubles’, but really that’s what they started out as. It was a moment in your life when you thought that first bad thing about your body, or that first thought about food safety, or labeling a food as bad. Or maybe it was a thought about how to control something. Whatever it was, at first it was just a momentary trouble.
But for some reason, our brains decided to latch onto this thought and start controlling us with it. It was in that moment, when we were not able to let go of the thought, that the devil started creating a stronghold in our mind. He started making us see everything through this particular lens. Every ED, anxiety and depression is unique in its own way. We all have something different that sets us off. For me, it is all about food safety. Body image is not something that I latched onto. But I have very close friends that don’t care at all about food safety and instead worry only about their body image.
With any ED, anxiety or depression, we are looking only at what is right in front of us. The cupcake. The immediate situation. The overwhelming feeling of sadness. Of being out of control. It’s almost like we have blinders on where this is all we can see. Where all we can hear are the self-deprecating or anxious thoughts.
God does not want us to live like this. He wants our focus to be on Him, not our situation, not our thoughts, and certainly not on control. The more we fight, the more we keep our focus on the Lord, everyday we will be renewed through the Holy Spirit. Everyday we will get stronger.
Each and every day on this earth is temporary. Each problem we have, each meal we eat, each thought we have, its all temporary. Our focus needs to stay on what is eternal, which is our relationship with our Father, O\our new home in Heaven. Most importantly, our purpose that He has given us.
Today, I encourage you to not loose heart. Instead, keep fighting. Keep looking upward. Shift your focus today from that immediate problem to the eternal life that you will have in heaven. Thats the goal we need to focus on today.
