You don’t deal with change well either? Girl… I am right there with you. I like order, stability and plans. Change throws all of that off. I recently moved, and there was SO many changes that were thrown on me all at once. It was while I was crying in the shower because I was so overwhelmed that I knew where I had to turn to relieve this intense anxiety and fear that I was experiencing.
If you’re reading this now, you may have clicked on it because you are going through a lot of change in your life, like moving, marriage, divorce, or having kids. Or maybe you are trying to fight the chaos that comes with getting treatment for an eating disorder or addiction.
The biggest problem with change is that the end result often sounds so SWEET!
“Oh, a new house! How exciting!’
‘ Living a life without food rules- that would be a dream!’
‘Getting married and seeing my partner everyday, forever? That sounds fantastic!’
But when we get to the actual change part, we often aren’t met with the feelings of excitement that we thought we would be. And that’s why I created this devotional, Transitions
When change happens though…
A new house sounds great- until you realize that you have to pack up everything and deal with realtors and switching bills, and learning a new way home. And by the way- you need a new couch.
Getting rid of food rules in your life sounds so free- until you try to live without them and the rules are screaming in your head so loud that you are crying and don’t know how your anxiety over a cupcake got so high.
Getting married sounds wonderful- until you do and realize that sharing bills, money, stress, and having to decide whats for dinner Every. Single. Night. is not the honeymoon that you dreamed it would be.
Loud Thoughts Lead to Loud Actions
I’ve been in everyone of these stressful changes in life and many more. Change causes so much chaos in our minds and our thoughts get so loud. Loud thoughts often lead to actions that we regret.
Such as letting the eating disorder win because it’s just easier that way than constantly fighting yourself.
Throwing a bowl of oatmeal at your partner because they just won’t listen.
Crying hysterically for weeks in private while you shower because you don’t understand anything that the realtor is saying but you don’t want to look stupid.
How to Deal with Change
If you’re reading this now, you may have clicked on it because you are going through a lot of change in your life, like moving, marriage, divorce, or having kids. Or maybe you are trying to fight the chaos that comes with getting treatment for an eating disorder or addiction. Transitions are just so hard to mentally deal with, and that’s why I wrote this devotional.
Change always brings chaos into our minds. Suddenly, the reality that our rules and routines worked in doesn’t work any longer.
Change is HARD. Being forced to get used to new normals while almost everything changes around you may make you want to cling to something that you know you can control.
To deal with the change and chaos we can turn to bad behaviors and emotions.
Or, we can turn to our Father. See, during these changes, we so often turn towards behaviors that make us feel better- binging, restricting, yelling, screaming, throwing things etc. But that peace that God gives us is what is truly going to get us through this change.
That’s why I wrote this devotional: The Cliff- Transitions. God prompted me to write it while I was moving, which sounds like it would add more stress on top of an already stressful situation. But actually the opposite happened. As I read the verses that He guided me to, and wrote from the heart about what God was teaching me, I felt more and more peaceful over our move.
And that study is what I want to give you today. It is a 15 Day Bible Study to help you gain perspective and peace over your transition. In it you will find self reflection questions as well as self discovery questions along with each daily devotional.
If you are going through a change or a transition right now, you need this. Your mind needs to be filled with God’s promises instead of the enemy’s lies about change. With God’s love and plans for you instead of all of the negatives that you see in front of you.
I would love to start this study with you! Please email me and I would be happy to.
I hope that you buy it and love it!
